
Kitara football club defender Maxwell Owachigiu has been named the first official team captain for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign by head coach, Brian Ssenyondo.
” Max’s discipline, commitment, respect for everyone are not questionable. He is exemplary and also embodies the values that we have as a club,” Ssenyondo explained.
Owachigiu retains this role and is also the longest serving captain of the club having led the club since 2018/19.
The defender played the most number of games for the Royals last season and guided them to their first ever Uganda Cup victory.
“It’s a great honor to represent Kitara FC as captain for another season and to lead so many good players,” Owachigiu said.
“Being a person who has been at this club for some years is something I don’t take for granted. It’s important to lead by example and also push others to the level they are expected to be and I hope we work together, learn from each and win as a team.”
Fellow defender, Jasper Aheebwa Baguma will serve as the first vice Captain as he enters his third season with the Royals having joined from Mbarara City FC in July, 2022.
Last season’s best Uganda Premier League goal keeper, Chrispas Kusiima is the second vice Captain while experienced midfielder Paddy Muhumuza was named third assistant skipper.
Kitara who are fresh from winning the Mechal SC 80th anniversary trophy in Ethiopia return to the country this evening at 6.30pm.
