Welcome to Kitara Football Club

Kitara football club was started in 2010, it is a community founded and owned team based in Hoima City.

Its nick name is ‘The Royals’ and hosts it’s games at their home ground known as The Royals Park in Butema.

Since its formation, Kitara Fc has grown from strength to strength emerging from playing in the lower division to regional league and currently playing in Uganda Premier League which is the first tier league in country.

The Royals made history in 2019 when they gained promotion to the National Top flight league, the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the first time.

This was under the stewardship of youthful coach, Mark Twinamatsiko and Godfrey Bamwenda as club President.

However, their stay at the top lasted just one season amidst a number of challenges but most notably the Corona Virus pandemic and got relegated to the FUFA Big League.

Following a few changes in administration with Deo Kasozi Akiiki succeeding Bamwenda, the technical and playing staff also took shape before the commencement of 2022/23 season.

Under Kasozi, the second division campaign started well for the Hoima based outfit; they didn’t suffer any defeat at Kigaaya playgrounds and lost only three matches before returning to the Uganda Premier League.

Kitara topped the table for most spells of the campaign, and beat off competition from Mbarara City, NEC and Police football club under the guidance of Sam Ssimbwa Bamweyana as head coach.

They went to win the 2022/23 FUFA Big League title.

In their second return to the top flight in the 2023/24 campaign, under head coach Brian Ssenyondo, the Royals won the Uganda Cup trophy after beating NEC FC 1-0 at Wankulukuku stadium. The goal was scored by Solomon Okwalinga.

Kitara subsequently represented Uganda at the continent in the CAF Confederation Cup competition in August, 2024. However they were knocked out at the first preliminary round by Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi SC on 6-4 aggregate.

Kitara hosted their 2023/24 matches at the Masindi stadium while as they waited for the completion of their home ground in Butema.

Upon completion in September 2024, Kitara shifted to The Royals Park Stadium in Butema.
