Kitara booked a spot in the Stanbic Uganda Cup after ejecting Gaddafi FC 1-2 in the round of 16 played at the Entebbe works play ground on Monday evening.
Fred Amaku levelled the score for the Royals in the 26th minute when he tapped home the ball after Gaddafi FC goal keeper Ssekandi spilled a cross from Jasper Baguma Aheebwa.
Earlier on, Tom Kakaire had given the hosts a lead in the 16th minute when he struck the ball into the net past an on rushing Farouk Yawe.
Youngster Byaruhanga John opened his goal account for the Royals when he dribbled past Simon Namwanja before firing a low shot to give the Uganda Cup holders a lead twenty minutes after second half.
Kitara kept pressing forward hoping to stretch their lead but could not break their opponents further.
Patrick Kaddu’s header hit the cross bar and flew out while Byaruhanga’s pass sailed unanswered across the goal mouth.
This was the second meeting between these two sides in this competition, their first encounter ended 2-0 at the Masindi stadium in February, 2024.
Kitara joins Police FC in the quarter finals following the Cops 0-1 win over Maroons FC at the Prisons ground in Luzira. They await draws to determine who their opponents in the last eight.
The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup will represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
