Denis Omedi was in the thick of things in his first game for Kitara football club on Friday at Muteesa II stadium in Wankulukuku.

The pacey forward put his team ahead as early as the 15th minute when he struck the ball into the net after Villa custodian failed to clear it and agonizingly saw the ball going into the back of the net.

Deployed in a three man attack alongside Brian Aheebwa and Paul Mucureezi, Omedi thrived. He made dangerous runs from the right flank into the box and proved a threat to the Jogos defence whenever he had the ball and his relentless effort led to Kitara’s opening goal.

‘It was very exciting and I’m very happy for that debut and for the goal,’ he beamed.

‘It was important for us to give in our all, to have a good game and play as a unit. The job was done and I’m really happy that the team won. It was an amazing game for us and the fans.

’I’m so proud of the experience because I have been working hard for many years to play in top flight and I hope to keep this energy,’ said Omedi.

‘ The coach believes in my ability and has always pushed me to work hard and that means a lot to me plus my teammates who have made me a better player. I hope we can continue with this mentality and spirit.’

Omedi was replaced in the 52nd minute when the score was level one all. Kabon Living came on as head coach Brian Ssenyondo made the first change and the former scored the winning goal at the death to make sure we left Wankulukuku with all three valuable points.

Kitara’s win marked a bright start in their second stint in StarTimes Uganda premier and Ssenyondo hopes Omedi and company will build on that momentum going forward.

He said in a post match interview, “We are proud of the performance against Villa, it was a good start for us but we are not going to get carried away because this is a campaign that has only just begun. There are many games coming up and we want to remain calm and focused.”

The Royals’ next assignment will be a home game at the Masindi stadium against UPDF next Friday.
