Kitara secured their progress to the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 16 with a hard earned victory over CATDA FC on Thursday evening.
The Royals didn’t have much to show in the opening stanza as Kabon Living’s shot that went wide was the best opportunity they had at goal.
The hosts showed more intent at the other end but their two goal bound attempts were taken off the line by an alert Farouk Yawe.
Their forward first struck from close range but his effort was punched away as well as the subsequent rebound by the Royals custodian.
In the second half, Marvin Nyanzi had his long range shot fly past the top left corner of the goal post before Patrick Kaddu and John Byaruhanga were introduced on for Jude Ssemugabi and Kabon Living respectively.
Kitara pushed forward mainly through the right flank where Byaruhanga launched three crosses in the opponent’s box.
However, the hosts remained resilient until the 71st minute when Kaddu headed in a ferocious cross from Byaruhanga to give the Royals a slim lead.
CATDA evened the score in the 83rd minute through a well built goal that was headed in the net beyond Yawe’s reach and sent the home fans into a frenzy.
However, the Royals intensified the pressure in search for a winning goal and they succeeded in the the 89th minute when CATDA defender Kikambwe Martin headed the ball into his own which caught keeper Otim Jimmy out of position.
Kitara will now wait for the draws of the next round to determine who their round of 16 opponent will be.
The Wasswa Bbosa coached side will host URA FC next in the league on March 1st, at the Royals Park Stadium in Butema.
