Kitara football club head coach, Brian Ssenyondo is impressed with his team’s performance in the just concluded first round of the StarTimes Uganda premier league but demands improvement from his players.

The Royals started this season well winning five matches in a row and led the table standings but were stunned at home by Maroons before a series of inconsistent displays followed in November.

“The way we started this campaign is different from how we ended the first round. We played well with intensity and followed every important detail and got good results but as the league went into match day six going forward, we struggled for consistency, conceded avoidable goals and also threw away vital goal scoring chances among other things,” said Ssenyondo.

Kitara who are playing in to top flight for the second time scored the highest number of goals in the first round 28 and obviously caught the attention of many and Ssenyondo is confident that his team is still on track as far as their target is concerned.

The Hoima side stunned the big boys, SC Villa, KCCA, Express and also held URA to a two all draw and also went on to win all home games except one.

They however lost to BUL and Vipers in Jinja and Kitende respectively and subsequently slipped to third on the log.

Ssenyondo remarks that his team has done somethings right but still have more work to do in the remainder of the season to match their aspirations.

“Team chemistry is a work in progress, some departments have done well like our attack while creativity in the midfield has sometimes been limited among other things which we hope will come better as the season goes on,” the Gaffer told the club website.

“Everyone at the club knows the task at hand and we can not afford to repeat some mistakes we have done before because they did cost us a lot, rather I need to see positive character, competitiveness and discipline. The second round is going to be tougher and teams are going to do their best in terms of reinforcements in the current window. We shall come back a better side and continue our target of finishing in the top five ,” he added.

Kitara are third on the log with 29 points, from 15 matches while BUL and Vipers have 33 and 30 and are first and second respectively.
