Kitara suffered their first loss of the second round of the StarTimes Uganda premier league against NEC football club away at the Philip Omondi stadium.

A second half goal from Cromwell Rwothomio gave the Die hards a slim victory and their first ever over the Royals whom they had not beaten in all their previous three meetings.

Both teams came into this tie off a disappointing results, Kitara were held to a goalless draw with BUL while Mbalangu’s side were beaten 1-0 by Wakiso Giants last week.

During the contest, NEC got more chances especially in the opening half but were not clinical enough until the 63rd minute when Rwothomio broke the deadlock and made sure his side returned to winning ways.

The striker had earlier two efforts dealt with by the Royals’ custodian Chris Kusiima while Denis Omedi, Jude Ssemugabi and Brian Aheebwa also got decent goal scoring opportunities for the visitors but failed to put them to proper use.

Brian Ssenyondo rang some changes introducing, Kabon Living, Frank Zaga Tumwesigye, Paul Mucureezi and George Senkaaba in the second half who probed  their opponents and had got an equalizer through Senkaaba but was shockingly cancelled for being offside.

Prior to this encounter, Kitara was leading NEC by 7 points but the gap has been lessened to 4 and further opened the title race.

The Royals remain on top of the log with 44 points while BUL, NEC ,SC Villa all have 40 and fifth placed Vipers have 38.

The Royals host Vipers in their next league fixture on April 19 at the Masindi stadium before wrapping up the month with a trip to Express FC.
