Stanbic Uganda Cup Result:

Quarter final
Kitara 1-0 BUL FC
Royals Park Stadium

Kitara advanced to their second straight semi final of the Stanbic Uganda Cup following a hard fought 1-0 victory over fellow league side BUL FC on Easter Sunday at the Royals Park Stadium - Butema.

In a fiercely contested tie, Arthur Kiggundu’s stunning free kick in the 85th minute was the difference between the two sides.

At the half hour mark Kitara’s Titus Ssematimba was sent for an early shower by referee Henry Musisi as well as Jerome Kirya of BUL for unsporting behavior reducing both sides to ten men.

The hosts produced more chances in the first half with Rogers Mugisha David Ndihabwe and Patrick Kaddu all coming close to scoring.

Mugisha’s two set piece attempts were saved by goal keeper Joel Mutakubwa who also punched away a goal bound header from Kaddu. Ndihabwe brushed well a Mugisha cross only for the ball to sail across the goal mouth.

BUL nearly led at the start of the second stanza when Karim Ndugwa’s first strike was denied by the cross bar. The forward again volleyed Martin Aprem’s pass slightly wide moments later.

The frustration grew further in the final minutes of the game with Nicholas Mwere getting sent off for a second bookable offence leaving his side with nine men.

This win was the first for Kitara over BUL FC in the eight meetings across all competitions.
The Eastern Giants had bossed all the three encounters earlier this season winning 1-0 in the FUFA Super 8 last August, before adding a 1-3 and 1-0 league victories in Butema and Nakivubo respectively.

Kitara joins KCCA FC in the semis while Vipers, SC Villa, Kataka FC and Police are the other sides that will be fighting for the remaining two spots.
